Sixth-grader Grant Mower plans to travel to Utah for a chance to have Michelle Obama test out the dress he designed for her, reportedly after he was inspired by a blooming orchid he admired during a visit to Washington, D.C.
The 12 year old fashion whiz kid and the Dallas couturier are creating a gown they hope to present to the First Lady, inspired by the "Queen of Orchids."
While Texas designer, Michael Faircloth has been mentoring him, Mower's mother, an interior designer, has helped him sew his extravagant visions.
To add to the glamour of their season, the Dallas Opera has themed this season "Tragic Obsessions" and will enlist five local designers to design a custom piece to be worn by a local philanthropist in the spirit of one of the operas. Michael Faircloth will design a gown in the spirit of La Traviata to be worn by local philanthropist, Shannon Skokos.
